What is Your Perfect Day?

The beauty of a perfect day lies in the simplicity of life.

Ahhh, that day! That enchanting, alluring, magical day that brings a smile—a truly carefree, memory-making kind of day.
I imagine that our perfect days evolve and change as we journey through life. My perfect day is currently being defined by having nothing to do. No commitments, no chores, no obligations. No self-imposed guilt for what I ‘should’ be doing. It’s where I allow myself the freedom to dive into whatever floats my boat at the moment, and then jump from boat to boat on a whim!
I previously wrote about the multi-generational home I am building with my family and the problem-solving challenges that have arisen. We continue to face various issues while trying to complete this beautiful house, and I find myself daydreaming more and more about my perfect days lately. I am eagerly looking forward to resigning from my self-imposed job of administration, follow-up, and ‘checklisting’ in this home-building process!
It has been difficult lately for me to blend into my days the more ‘perfect day aspects’ I long for when there is so much to think about, worry about, handle ... you name it with this house. I have never done well with multitasking the bigger items. As many of you know, I tend to dive in fully and become overly focused on the project at hand. The minor things tend to get pushed aside for another day. Those small things, however, end up piling up on my shoulders as well, until there is a big mound to deal with. And so it seems like the hamster wheel never stops turning!
I need times like this to stop and smell the roses. To re-center. To rethink my thoughts. To take a beat and notice all the blessings around me. To enjoy a lovely day on the beach with my peeps and another day with just me and Caylee the Zen Puppy watching the sun rise. To create my perfect days, or perfect half-days even!
I have been thinking a lot about how I will spend my days after we are all moved in and settled. Just writing that brings a smile to my face—it’s been a long time coming for that day, and hopefully, it’s just around the corner! I’m looking forward to establishing new routines and enjoying more perfect days. New places to have my morning coffee (there will be many to choose from!). My new Zen Garden is where I will meditate, journal, and compose my musings. Family dinners around a huge round dining table, with fresh, yummy food prepared with love! In the evenings, I’ll enjoy my drawing time while snuggled in with my peeps and Caylee on a new, comfy couch, watching whatever series we get hooked on.
In this next chapter, I want to consciously work towards creating more perfect days and letting them unfold before me, and filling them with more of my hobbies and less of the chores. I believe I can be perfectly content in knowing that I have worked long and hard over the years to enjoy a simpler life. To fill my days with the things that make me smile. To be grateful for everything that surrounds me. To enjoy time spent with my friends and family and make more memories!
I’m getting excited about having more time for all the fun things I enjoy doing again! Writing, golf, reading, drawing, painting, creating photo books, journaling, yoga, beachcombing, traveling, and trying new restaurants with my tribe! It’s kind of like a second retirement for me. And this time around, I plan to do it better, lol!
I also know that I will have to make sure to sprinkle in my ‘alone’ time as well. I have always known that I need my downtime. We introverts need that to recharge. We need that to be the best we can be – later – with our peeps. I am lucky to have a family that gets this, and they graciously allow me my time to escape! Sometimes just an afternoon will do the trick. At other times, it may be a long weekend or even a whole week! It is those times, too, when I will carve out aspects of my perfect days. Perhaps an entire book will be read, lots of Zen drawings will sprout, or there will be naps, or walks on the beach, or binge-watching Netflix. Those are all parts of my perfect days that I cherish and want to merge in more often!
What defines your perfect day, and how can you create more of them?
